2026 Intermissions Conference February 27th-March 1st Porta Hotel del Lago Panajachel, Sololá, Guatemala

John has been married to his wife, Emily, for over twenty years. John serves as the
Missions Pastor at Green Acres Baptist Church. He leads a team that has the privilege
of serving over seventy partners worldwide. Emily works for Church Missions Network
and focuses on mobilization efforts sending church leaders and their congregations to
nine East African countries.
They have four children and love growing and serving together as a family. Abigail is 20
and she is currently a junior at UT Tyler. Ethan is 19 and is a sophomore at ETBU. Isaac
is a junior and Joel is a sophomore both at Bullard High School.
John has a doctorate in church planting and evangelism and has over 20 years of
ministry experience in the local church. He has served in churches of all sizes including
serving in student ministry, adult ministry, missions, and as a lead pastor.
Over the last 13 years, John has been a part of revitalizing, starting, and strengthening
churches in the U.S. and around the world. He has ministry partnerships and
connections on every continent and loves serving, equipping, and empowering the local
church. John loves coaching ministers, missionaries, church planters, and pastors
encouraging them to think constructively and evaluating ministry with clarity, vision,
strategy, and intentionality.
John’s passion is unleashing the potential of the church globally. Equipping,
empowering, and encouraging those who serve locally, domestically, and abroad. These
servants are the primary target of John’s passion so that the church can reach their
neighbors and the nations.
I have the privilege of currently serving missionaries and church planters in Japan,
Australia, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, England, Scotland, Zambia, Malawi,
Kenya, Rwanda, Brazil, Colombia, Mexico, Canada, and across the USA. Most of my
experience missionally is in East Africa. The majority of the work I do is centered around
church planting and church strengthening.
Family fun is traveling, ATV’s, dirt-bikes, and sports. I love learning about new cultures,
although, new foods make me nervous. My favorite genre of book is pretty boring…I
love Bible commentaries. Haha. Emily and I met at church but not in a way I have heard
many others talk about. I had become the interim student minister at a church and Emily
was in college. Her dad was my lead student volunteer. I hung out at their house all the
time. I started a college bible study and called him one day curious why his daughter
was not coming to bible study. He replied, “I don’t know. Have you talked to her about
it?” Of course, I had not. So I called her and told her, “I am coming to pick you up for
Bible study.” She said, “Ok.” That was the beginning! Haha. I have a bachelor’s degree
in physical education. I came to faith as a college student with little to no experience
with the local church. After coming to faith, I thought I could influence high school
students as a coach. So I pursued education. While I was pursuing education, the
opportunity surfaced to become a student minister for a local church and I just said yes!
I never looked back and the Lord blessed ministry in and through the local church. I was
not a good student and honestly did not like school. However, in the Lord’s humor, I now
have a master’s degree in theology and a doctorate in church planting.
Program
Since 1937 the evangelical missionary community of Guatemala has gathered to worship, fellowship, pray, play and enjoy time together. For many, especially those who are in smaller mission organizations or live in rural areas of the country, Intermissions provides a once a year opportunity to worship and hear God’s word taught in English. It provides the place to renew old friendships. It affords the space to spend time away from your ministry focus in order to hear God in a new and fresh way.
The Framing and Finishing Committees are already working on next year’s conference. Stay tuned here and on ther Intermissions Guatemala Facebook Page for the latest information on conference package prices, date of registration in the fall, and other information as it becomes available.

Counseling Services (Click for more information)
As missionaries we all deal with a high stress level on any given day. Some studies suggest that most missionaries live constantly over the dangerous stress level indicators. Another significant factor is we find ourselves with no one to talk to about these stressors. That is why it is so exciting to have professional Christian counselors with us each year at the conference.
Feedback
We work hard to make the conference experience the best it can be. The core of our efforts is to continue the original vision of bringing rest and recreational experience to our fellow missionaries and their families.
Your response to the following survey helps us reach that goal.
Please take a minute to complete the brief questionnaire.
